What advice I would give to Holden

Holden is obviously lost and is searching for directions in his life.We do not know much about his relation with his parents, but he is frequently talking about his brother Allie and we can see he is not comfortable and open to talk to his parents about what he is going trough. They did not build that kind of relation where the trust and understanding is mutual. It is common that teenagers feel more comfortable talking to complete strangers then friends or family.
I would have advised him to start building more close relation with his parents and hopefully find their support.
He is very close to his siblings ,Allie and Phoebe,he describes Phoebe like very mature person ,even she is only 10.There is already family bond ,but the thing is how can he seek an advice from 10 year old ,or he is very aware that she is only child, and the characteristics that he contributes to her, he already has ,but he, for whatever reason ,being coward, is hiding behind the image of weak and immature young man who is on the edge of psychological breakdown.
If we compare Crabbe and Holden they share the same feelings regarding society. They do not find real values around them.Crabbe is choosing to run to wilderness, unlike Holden who decides to go to his hometown New York, the busiest place on earth.Crabbe is able to find support in Mary,Holden is meeting many people in New York and yet his search for innocence and ideal world is something he didn't find in anyone. He stays lonely, disconnected and desperate.
I would have advised him like Dr.Thurmer is ,that "life is a game "page 8,The catcher in the rye and I would add; it is a game in which is hard to win,but even staying in the game is winning.
Like the song The Circle Game by Joni Mitchell
