Willy feels tired,tired of his ambitious and the goals he couldn't achieve.He summarizes what he did in his life and he doesn't like the result.He was dreaming about his boys becoming successful and important in life , and he comes to realization that he did something wrong in their upbringing.He returns to the past frequently , like many people recalling something from time distance and idealizing it and seeing it with different eyes and preferring to live in past.He feels, he is becoming a burden to his company , and the worst, to his family too.He can't control himself anymore,he is on the edge of psychological breakdown.
He feels that his whole life is a waste, doesn't see any positive solution and gives up.Searching trough the past doesn't bring any comfort or it is comfort just for a short time.Chasing materialistic things is the game without end,you can't win that one.He is disappointed how business world doesn't forgive you mistakes or how inhumane it is.He starts feeling that his family will do better without him collecting insurance money after his death.It is clear now that Willy doesn't find any comfort,his career is finished,his sons didn't accomplish his dreams,even Linda his loyal wife can't encourage him any more.
